SHUEISHA GAMES released a free Steam demo for Chronoscript: The Endless End, an Exploration Action-Adventure developed by DeskWorks Inc., on August 20, 2026, Japan time.

The demo’s protagonist is Frederick G Muller, an editor. Players can experience everything from the opening, where he becomes trapped in the world of a manuscript, through to the first boss battle, where he meets Viola S Chambers, a vampire author who has been writing “The Endless End” for a thousand years. The demo takes up to about 30 minutes to complete, and completion times are recorded. Completing the main portion unlocks the high-difficulty boss mode “Extra: Boss Challenge Battle.” Save data does not carry over from the demo to the full game.

The development team’s background has been discussed in Japanese-language interviews. Director Tom Fujii began his career at Clover Studio, where he worked on the development of Okami. He later worked as lead planner on rain, which is where he connected with the game’s producer, SHUEISHA GAMES’ Masami Yamamoto. Yamamoto has roughly 40 years of experience in the games industry, and his related work is described as including Tenchu: Stealth Assassins and the No Heroes Allowed! series. In the interview, Yamamoto cites Soul Sacrifice, Freedom Wars, and Bloodborne as examples of titles where he worked with well-known creators. Nam Namba, who handles character design and level design, has been Fujii’s classmate since their school days, and the two also worked together on the previous title RPG Time: The Legend of Wright. The music is by Yasunori Mitsuda, Shunsuke Tsuchiya, and Mariam Abounnasr, with Manami Kiyota joining as a guest composer.

The editor theme extends to the on-screen text as well. According to a preview article published by GAME Watch on July 30, 2026 (based on a separate build ahead of general release), the death screen displays “ReRead,” while the victory screen shows “校正完了” (proofreading complete). The writer described the game as tough but balanced, with challenges that players can overcome once they learn its patterns.

The demo supports nine languages in total: Japanese, English, French, Italian, German, Spanish (Spain), Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, and Korean. The listed system requirement is Windows 11 64-bit. The full game is planned for release on PlayStation 5 and PC (Steam) in fall 2026, with a specific date yet to be announced.
