A pixel-art horror adventure based on Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland can now be played in a roughly two-hour demo.

On September 5, 2026, Shinonome, the solo developer behind the circle Krachware, released a Steam demo for Don’t Return to Wonderland, which is currently in development. The game supports Japanese and English for its interface, voice acting, and subtitles. Other languages have not been announced, but since an English version is available from the start, players who don’t read Japanese can try it right away.

Shinonome has worked as a freelance designer under the name Krachware since 2017, mainly producing assets for game development and designs for doujin works, and has previously released two free horror exploration games. This appears to be Shinonome’s first release on Steam. Krachware is credited as both the developer and publisher.

The game is billed as a dark fairy-tale horror adventure. Guided by her best friend, Chie, Alice sets out on a journey to save a crumbling Wonderland. It’s a top-down exploration game featuring minigames such as whack-a-mole and batting, along with puzzle-solving mechanics. It’s a 2D pixel-art game, but it also includes hand-drawn animated illustrations.

The demo covers the story from its beginning through the first half of the second stage. It runs about two hours. The full version will reportedly take three to four hours per playthrough and about five hours to see everything, with multiple endings planned.

The game will launch on PC (Steam) sometime in 2026. A specific release date has not been set.
