Hachishakusama, a horror game depicting a boy’s summer haunted by an eight-foot-tall apparition (about 240 cm), will be released for PC at 1,200 yen (tax included).

The player controls a boy who has been sent to stay in a rural village where his grandfather’s house stands. There, the boy ends up catching the eye of Hachishakusama, an eight-foot-tall female apparition dressed in white. The official description describes the game as “a heartfelt horror of the ‘one summer’ spent together by the giant apparition Hachishakusama and a small boy” (translated from Japanese). Here is how it describes the gameplay itself: “It depicts the fear of being repeatedly pestered by the apparition ‘Hachishakusama’ while exploring the Japanese countryside, along with a strange sense of affection” (translated from Japanese).

Hachishakusama, the subject of the game, is a famous urban legend that originated as a piece of fictional horror writing on 2ch. The game places this Hachishakusama at the center of its story as the presence that haunts the boy.

The game is developed and published by Fukachi World. Whether Fukachi World is an individual developer or a multi-person team could not be confirmed from this article’s sources (Famitsu, the Steam store page, and AUTOMATON WEST). Fukachi World’s previous work likewise could not be confirmed.

In the Steam store page’s supported-language table, all 6 languages — Japanese, English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Russian, and Korean — have checkmarks in all 3 categories: interface, full audio, and subtitles. That means full English voice acting and English subtitles will be available at launch.

The game is available only for PC (Steam). The regular price is 1,200 yen (tax included), dropping to a 20%-off price of 960 yen (tax included) for the first week after launch. The release date differs depending on the source. Famitsu (dated July 24, 2026), which reported the developer’s own announcement, states that the game is “planned to be released on July 30, 2026.” Meanwhile, the Steam store page reads “Planned Release Date: 29 Jul, 2026.” Which one is correct cannot be confirmed at this time. Neither Famitsu’s article nor the Steam store page mentions a demo.
