On August 6, 2026, the visual novel development brand BA-KU announced the development of Hyakubyaku, a new project from screenwriter Renya Setoguchi.

Only the title and the core staff have been announced so far. Setoguchi is directing and writing the scenario, Kanzaki Karin is handling the artwork, and Hideyuki Babai is in charge of the music. Neither the game’s content nor details of its supported platforms have been revealed yet. It is planned for release on Steam, and the store page is still in preparation. For BA-KU, this is the company’s second self-published title, following BLACK SHEEP TOWN in 2022.

The announcement flyer can be printed at in-store printers of the Japanese convenience store chain SEVEN-ELEVEN JAPAN CO., LTD. through September 3, 2026 (print number KM6Z5RY7). The photo shows a flyer printed by XOKURA.

The flyer’s illustration is a fantastical, dreamlike image in which a quiet, blue underwater world blends into an everyday indoor room. Rendered in a soft, hand-drawn style reminiscent of watercolor or colored pencil, it shows schools of fish, coral, seaweed, and bubbles drifting through the scene. A figure in a diving suit stands at the center, and the generous open space around them evokes a sense of quiet, solitude, and a faintly nostalgic mood.

Setoguchi has been writing scripts for Japanese visual novels since the 2000s. Setoguchi’s best-known works are SWAN SONG, released by the brand Le.Chocolat in 2005; Kira Kira, released by OVERDRIVE in 2007; and MUSICUS!, released on December 20, 2019. Kira Kira is a coming-of-age ensemble drama built around band activities, while MUSICUS! portrays the difficulty of making a living through music. MUSICUS! was OVERDRIVE’s final release, and Setoguchi is said to have proposed the project on their own initiative. Rather than calling it a sequel to Kira Kira, the work was described as its “successor.”

Several of Setoguchi’s works can be played in English. MangaGamer released an official English version of Kira Kira in June 2009, sold exclusively as a download from the company’s own site. MangaGamer also released an official English version of MUSICUS! on April 8, 2021, which is also available on Steam. Hira Hira Hihiru (developed by BA-KU and published by ANIPLEX.EXE), released on November 16, 2023, supports English for its interface and subtitles on its Steam store page, though the voice audio is Japanese only. As of the time of writing, the title’s Steam user review status is “Overwhelmingly Positive.” SWAN SONG, on the other hand, does not appear to have an English release, as far as can be confirmed.
