Snowed Under, the new game from Japanese horror game studio Chilla’s Art, will launch on Steam on August 14, 2026, Japan time.

The Steam store page describes the game as follows: “Snowed Under is a first-person game about shoveling snow in the mountains.” The game is set on a snowy mountainside, where the player digs through the snow with a shovel. As the digging progresses, food, buildings, and “something” begin to emerge from beneath the snow. Materials gathered along the way can be used for upgrades to shovel performance, stamina, and inventory capacity. The story centers on the player’s conversations with an NPC named Kai. Estimated playtime is listed as 2 to 4 hours.

Chilla’s Art is a Japanese developer made up of two brothers who have built a career on horror games. The studio has put out a large number of first-person horror titles in quick succession, including The Closing Shift, Aka Manto, The Bathhouse, and The Convenience Store. The Convenience Store was adapted into a live-action film and also received a Nintendo Switch release. The studio’s most recent title, UMIGARI, launched in February 2026 and has earned a “Very Positive” rating from Steam user reviews.

Chilla’s Art’s games have long been known for being demanding to run. Game*Spark reports that Snowed Under was recently declared to be “light enough for anyone to play.” Chilla’s Art had also been distributing a beta version to its Patreon supporters. The Steam store page discloses that AI was used to draft the concept, while the final assets were created by hand.

Snowed Under was announced on July 25, 2026, with the release date set roughly 3 weeks later. The game will be available only on PC via Steam. It supports 8 languages — Japanese (full voice), English, French, Hungarian, Korean, Vietnamese, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese — across interface, voice, and subtitles.
