Danganronpa 2x2 Adds a Mode Where the Culprits Change

Victims, culprits, tricks: it all gets swapped out in Slayhem Mode, a new scenario in Danganronpa 2x2 that keeps the same island and the same students as Original mode. Danganronpa 2x2 launches January 14, 2027, on Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam and Epic Games Store). The Steam version includes English voice acting.

The setting is Jabberwock Island, where the students have arrived on a school trip. Each of them holds a special talent called an Ultimate, and all of them get pulled into a killing game run by Monokuma. In a Class Trial, you point out contradictions in the arguments to corner the culprit.

Original mode, the remake of Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair, sits alongside the new scenario, and you pick which one to play when you start the game. In Slayhem Mode, Monokuma hands the students an item in the opening, and that’s where the story splits from Original mode.

The new scenario is about 120% the size of Original mode, producer Shohei Sakakibara said at a media presentation.

The investigation phase has four difficulty levels. There’s a single save file, so skills you build up for a character in one mode carry over to the other. Do you build up skills in Original mode first, or take on Slayhem Mode right away?

A new face joins the cast: Sakutaro Higashi. His Ultimate talent hadn’t been revealed as of the presentation.

Getting around the island changes too. The World Map moves from side-scrolling to an overhead 3D view, and you can run freely around the island or pick a destination and travel there. You can also switch to a first-person view.

With the culprits and tricks swapped, even players who know how Danganronpa 2 ends should get cases they haven’t solved before, on the same island.

Gemdrops, Inc. is developing the game. A limited edition, the Danganronpa 2x2 Psycho Tropical Vacation Package, will also be available.
