On August 4, 2026, Nintendo broadcast a Nintendo Direct dedicated to Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, revealing the “true protagonist” who appears five years after the four protagonists disappear.

Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave Reveals the Savior Who Appears Five Years Later

Famitsu reports that this savior travels forward in time to the era five years later by changing the fates of the four protagonists, and that it appears the four can then be recruited as allies to fight alongside the savior. The character serves as the player’s avatar, and players can choose the character’s gender. The default name in the English-language version is said to be Eshmel. It should be noted that the text of Famitsu’s article does not state outright that the four protagonists have died — a related article’s headline only touches on this, with a question mark.

The technique uses a shared tone curve for SDR and HDR, and Polyphony Digital had released C++ sample code under the MIT license at SIGGRAPH 2025.
