NINJA GAIDEN 4 Developers Discuss Designing the Game to Be “Playable in Your Head” Before Implementation
Yuji Nakao and Takuma Ishikawa of PlatinumGames discussed the design approach behind NINJA GAIDEN 4, co-developed by Team NINJA and PlatinumGames, at CEDEC 2026. The two said they refined the specs from three perspectives — player actions, enemies, and stages — and reduced rework by getting the game to a state where it was “playable in your head” before implementation. During the session, one of them also said, “I don’t think there’s such a thing as a spec you can’t understand until you actually put it in the game.” (translated from Japanese)
