On September 26, in the Puyo Puyo Champions esports final, Japan’s Yuki Kurihara (11) defeated a player from South Korea 10-2. In April 2026, Kurihara earned a professional license issued by Japan’s esports body — the first elementary school student to do so.

Romancing SaGa 3: Destinies United Demo Lets Players See Enemy Moves Before They Happen
SQUARE ENIX’s full remake of Romancing SaGa 3, titled Romancing SaGa 3: Destinies United, had a playable demo at TOKYO GAME SHOW 2026. In battle, the enemy’s next move is now telegraphed in advance. Hitting an enemy’s weakness triggers an ally combo attack. Being able to read what’s coming widens the range of possible strategies. Characters are now rendered as 3D models, and conversations are fully voiced. The Normal difficulty is reportedly designed so that even series newcomers can get through the game.

Echoes of Aincrad Update 1.0.6: Tougher Bosses, Faster Weapons
Bandai Namco Entertainment released the free Version 1.0.6 update for Echoes of Aincrad, a Sword Art Online game, on September 25. Some bosses now have higher HP and attack power. On the Hard and Very Hard difficulties, tough enemies and bosses also have even more HP. But enemies aren’t the only ones that got stronger. Several weapon types now have faster motions, and Sword Skills charge more quickly. A downed Partner now returns in 25 seconds instead of 30. A new Sell All feature lets players sell multiple weapons at once, making gear management smoother.

Chinese Historical Sim Heroes’ Vow: Three Kingdoms Launches With About 1,300 Generals
Heroes’ Vow: Three Kingdoms, a historical simulation game from China, officially launched on September 23. It’s developed by Free Wing, with Free Wing and NPC Entertainment as publishers. The game is made by an indie team of fewer than 10 people, yet it includes about 1,300 generals and 19 scenarios. It draws not only on historical records but also on figures and events from folklore. As of September 26, the game had about 6,800 Steam reviews, 87% of which were positive, and concurrent players had peaked at around 6,300.

Mercenaries Saga Series’ 8th Entry Moves to Alternating One-Unit Turns
RideonJapan announced a new tactical SRPG on September 25 — the eighth entry in the Mercenaries Saga series. Players take on the role of a young mercenary company leader, forming and training a squad to clear stages. Battles have moved from the series’ traditional turn-based system to an alternating format, in which the enemy moves one unit each time the player moves a unit. Each move requires anticipating the enemy’s counterattack. The class system has also been redesigned, expanding from seven to eight categories, each with novice, intermediate, advanced, and elite tiers. Characters can also switch to an adjacent class.
