The fighting game MELTY BLOOD: TWI-LUMINA is getting a newly written story mode, the “Grand Scenario Mode,” penned by original creator Kinoko Nasu.
The announcement came during a special program, “TYPE-MOON TIMES 出張版 in FGO Fes. 2026,” which began airing at 13:50 JST on August 2 (the evening of August 1 into the early hours of August 2 in North America; the morning of August 2 in Europe). The program was broadcast from a venue hosting a Fate/Grand Order fan event.
Regarding voice recording for the Grand Scenario Mode, it was mentioned that recording for Ryosuke Kanemoto, who voices Shiki Tohno, took roughly five days to a week. The development team said they designed the mode to serve as an entry point for players to get into the game.
Players can choose between two control schemes: “Act,” a simplified scheme that lets players unleash special moves with a single button, and “Duel,” the series’ traditional command-input scheme. In terms of gameplay systems, Rapid Beats — the combo system built around rapid-fire button presses — has been enhanced. The “Moon Gauge” has been renamed the “Lumina Gauge,” and a new dash attack called the “Gauntlet,” which consumes the Lumina Gauge, is being added.
Four characters were shown during the stream. Shiki Tohno gained a new projectile attack. Also appearing are Arcueid Brunestud; Mash Kyrielight, joining from Fate/Grand Order; and Ren, a mid-to-long-range character who places a black cat to keep opponents in check and throws Neco-Arc as an attack.
MELTY BLOOD: TWI-LUMINA is based on original work by Kinoko Nasu and TYPE-MOON, developed by FRENCH-BREAD, and published by Aniplex (Aniplex of America in English-speaking regions). It’s coming to PS5, PS4, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PC (Steam), with a release window of early 2027. A playable demo is planned for Aniplex’s booth at TOKYO GAME SHOW 2026 (September 17–21).
