Hideo Kojima’s PHYSINT, unveiled on a PlayStation broadcast in 2024 and developed in collaboration with Sony Interactive Entertainment Inc., is now moving to XBOX.
On September 9, 2026, KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS and XBOX announced an expanded partnership under which XBOX will publish the action-espionage title PHYSINT. Development remains with KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS. The collaboration also extends into film and television. Platforms and release timing have not yet been announced.
Kojima also detailed how the move came about. Writing on his own X account (@Kojima_Hideo), he said SIE abruptly notified him in mid-June that it was canceling PHYSINT. Calling the project important to both himself and KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS, he said he spent the following three months searching for a new partner to keep it going. After consulting widely and negotiating, he settled on XBOX again as a partner who shares his vision for the future, closing by saying development is continuing and there is no need to worry.

PlayStation also posted on its official X account (@PlayStation) that, after careful consideration, it had made the difficult decision to step back from supporting KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS’ PHYSINT. The post added that PlayStation still respects the vision Kojima is bringing to the project, that its relationship with Kojima remains strong after 30 years of collaboration, and that it hopes to keep working closely with him and his studio going forward. Neither side’s statements say why the project was canceled.

XBOX CEO Asha Sharma said creators should have the freedom to choose where and how they bring their ideas to life, adding that she was honored Kojima chose XBOX. Kojima, in turn, said the expanded partnership goes beyond the companies’ existing work on OD, and that he remains focused on redefining the action-espionage genre for players around the world.
PHYSINT was first announced in January 2024 during SIE’s State of Play broadcast. Its cast was revealed in September 2025 at BEYOND THE STRAND, an event marking KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS’ tenth anniversary: Charlee Fraser (Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga), Ma Dong-Seok (Train to Busan, Eternals), and Minami Hamabe.
