Konami Digital Entertainment has launched Suikoden STAR LEAP, the first all-new entry in the Suikoden series in 14 years, on August 7, 2026, Japan time.

However, this launch was limited to the Japanese iOS and Android versions. Konami has said only that details on the global and Steam versions will be announced “at a later date,” with no release date set. The domestic version is free-to-play with in-app purchases.

The story is set in Solar Year 453. It kicks off when a lakeside village on the eastern edge of the Scarlet Moon Empire comes under attack from a mysterious enemy, and players set out to recruit a new set of companions known as the “108 stars.” The title is not numbered, but it is treated as part of the series canon.

Battles use what’s called a “timeline turn based battle system.” Each character selects an action in turn, and the attacks are then executed in the order shown on an on-screen timeline. The series’ signature War Mode also returns, letting players turn the tide of battle using characters’ combat skills.

The team explained why they chose mobile in a Famitsu interview published in August 2025. The producer said the choice reflected a desire to make it easy for as many people as possible to pick up Suikoden. In the same interview, the director also introduced the timeline turn based battle system. Four days before launch, on August 3, 2026, Konami revealed four new characters and released an introduction video for each.
