Nippon Ichi Software, Inc.’s life simulation game Village in the Shade has surpassed 100,000 units in cumulative sales in Japan, just four days after launch. The figure combines shipments and digital sales.

Village in the Shade was created by the in-house Nippon Ichi Software team behind the Yomawari series. Yomawari has a following among horror game fans overseas as well, and NIS America, Inc. has published it in North America and Europe. This time, though, the team created a rural life game rather than a horror game.

The setting is Kagatsu, a village deep in the mountains. There, players farm the land, go hunting, and interact with the villagers.

The game launched in Japan and elsewhere in Asia on July 30, 2026, for four platforms: PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, and PC (Steam / Windows). NIS America, Inc. has already announced a North American and European release for fall 2026.

Despite the strong sales, physical copies have been selling out at retailers in Japan. Nippon Ichi Software said on its official X account that it is working to replenish supplies as quickly as possible.

There have also been reports of issues. A bug that can halt game progress has been confirmed, and a patch addressing the issue (Ver.1.04) has already been released for the PlayStation 5 version. Fixes for the other platforms are said to be coming soon.

As of August 4, 2026, Village in the Shade has 155 user reviews on Steam, 85% of which are positive, giving it a “Very Positive” rating.
