Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter Launches Worldwide on September 17, Across Four Platforms
Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter is coming to four platforms: Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and PC (Steam). Nihon Falcom Corporation will release it worldwide on September 17, 2026. Due to time zone differences, it unlocks on Steam in North America and Europe on September 16. The full remake serves as a sequel to Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter and marks the 20th anniversary of the Trails series. An interview with producer Toshihiro Kondo has also been published to coincide with the release.

Physics Puzzle Dropping Drops, Scored Entirely by Xevious and Dig Dug Composer Yuriko Keino
Mindware released the physics puzzle game Dropping Drops on Steam on September 16. Players fit 300 falling particles into frames with preset shapes. There’s no game over; each stage is instead a race for a high score. Yuriko Keino, who composed the music for Dig Dug and Xevious at NAMCO, created every track and sound effect. She has said that she imposed constraints on herself to match the sound capabilities of arcade hardware from that period.

Disgaea’s Sohei Niikawa Adapts His Own Novel Magic Investigation Police Into a Game
mebius has announced a game adaptation of Magic Investigation Police, a title from the web novel imprint CHIMERA NOVEL. Set in a modern world where magic exists, magic investigation officer Shun Kazama teams up with Arpeggio, a magic-using partner, to fight magical crime. The novel was written under the pen name Roman Kitayama by Sohei Niikawa, known for the Disgaea series; Niikawa is also producing the game adaptation. Platforms and a release date have not been set. A launch event will be livestreamed from the TOKYO GAME SHOW 2026 venue on September 17.

Wizardry: The Five Ordeals to Add Four New Backgrounds in This Fall’s Update
Wizardry: The Five Ordeals will add four new background images to its Scenario Editor in a fall 2026 update: a snowbound winter village, a spring-to-summer village, an underground dungeon styled after a modern Japanese electronics district, and a plain black background. Users can also set their own custom images. The Scenario Editor, available only to players who own the game on Steam, lets players create their own dungeons, monsters, items, and stories. This is not a new game but an update to the existing release. 59 Studio developed the game, and IID, Inc. publishes it.

SUPER EXCITE BALL Is a Four-Player Battle to Flip the Ball Into Rivals’ Goals
Independent developer ARAKI has opened a Steam store page for the competitive action game SUPER EXCITE BALL (Super Excite Ball). Each player has a goal on one side of a stadium-style arena, and the aim is to flip the ball into rivals’ goals using flippers. Special balls—like ones that bounce wildly or explode—and arena features such as bumpers and black holes appear on the board. In addition to matches against the CPU, the game supports online play for up to four players. The game is slated for release in the near future. The only language listed on its Steam page so far is Japanese.
