EARTH DEFENSE FORCE 6.2 INVADERS FROM ANOTHER WORLD launches March 18, 2027. There can be up to twice as many enemies as in EARTH DEFENSE FORCE 6, and a new feature lets you modify weapons piece by piece.

Enemy swarms that already fill the screen will be up to twice as large. EARTH DEFENSE FORCE 6.2 INVADERS FROM ANOTHER WORLD, a major rebuild of the previous game, EARTH DEFENSE FORCE 6, launches on PlayStation 5 on March 18, 2027. That’s the release date in Japan; no other regions have been announced yet.

The announcement came at a press briefing at the D3PUBLISHER booth during TOKYO GAME SHOW 2026. Nobuyuki Okajima, the series producer, took the stage and personally demoed 6.2. SANDLOT is developing the game, and D3PUBLISHER is publishing it.

EARTH DEFENSE FORCE is a third-person action shooter in which players control EDF troopers fighting off giant creatures that swarm cities. Giant ants and spiders arrive in huge numbers, filling the screen. 6.2 features up to twice as many enemies as EARTH DEFENSE FORCE 6 and rebuilds more than half of the existing missions. According to information provided at the August 2026 announcement, the game was listed as supporting co-op for up to two players offline and up to four online.

6.2’s new feature is weapon modification. Items you collect let you rebuild the weapons you’re carrying. For an assault rifle, the available modifications reportedly include numerous elements such as the rounds, magazine, sight, barrel, and underbarrel attachment.

A new stage was also shown. The footage released includes a scene of EDF troopers heading out to hunt mushrooms. At the August announcement, a new enemy type was described as looking like a mushroom. Its true identity still hasn’t been revealed.

The same briefing also confirmed a release date of January 28, 2027, for EARTH DEFENSE FORCE 6 for Nintendo Switch 2. This version adds subtitles and on-screen damage numbers as new features, and the Nintendo Switch 2 version alone supports local wireless co-op and split-screen play. EARTH DEFENSE FORCE 6 itself, the base game, had already been released on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC (via Steam) in July 2024.
