All seven entries in ONI, a Japanese-style RPG series originally released between 1990 and 1996, are being reissued together for Nintendo Switch on January 28, 2027. Rather than being bundled into a single package, the seven games will each launch separately on the same day.
D3PUBLISHER announced the reissue of all seven games in the series on September 10, 2026. The lineup consists of five Game Boy titles and two Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) titles. mebius is developing the Switch versions.
Battles center on a system where the protagonist transforms into a monstrous form. Changing form swaps out the protagonist’s abilities entirely, and they fight enemies in that state. The series draws on yokai, oni, and ninja, and both the protagonist and the era each game is set in change from title to title.
The Game Boy line began in 1990, with further entries in 1992, 1993, 1994, and 1995, for five games in total. The third Game Boy entry (1993) is structured as an ensemble story spanning five chapters, with a different protagonist in each. In the final entry, released in 1995, protagonists from across the earlier Game Boy games all appear together. The two SNES entries are set in different eras: the 1994 game takes place during the Kamakura period, and the 1996 game during the Bakumatsu. According to the official website, historical figures also appear in both of these games.
The Switch versions keep the original graphics and gameplay intact while adding three features: save and load anywhere, rewind, and adjustable game speed. No new content has been added to the games themselves.
Digital versions let players buy each Game Boy or SNES title individually. Physical releases come in two bundles: one collecting all five Game Boy games, and one collecting both SNES games. A limited first-run edition including all seven games, along with a newly written novel and a soundtrack CD, will also be available.
A release outside Japan has not yet been announced.
