In 2097, Hokkaido, the northern island of Japan, lies under snow. A girl and an android travel through it. That is FUYOUKU, a single-player road-movie adventure announced in November by Ray’n Studio, the indie game label of MusicRay’n Inc. It is planned for 2027, with platforms still unannounced. The official site lists six languages: English, Japanese, French, Korean, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese.

Hokkaido guidebooks once filled their pages with drift ice, lavender fields, hot springs, seafood and ramen. In 2097, almost none of it is left. In a land that has forgotten spring, a girl sets out to keep a promise, tracing memories buried under the snow. The official site describes it as a journey taken many times before, and also for the first time.

The official site introduces three characters: Karin Otome, who had been in a long sleep; Sakina Tsukishiro, a girl searching for Karin; and Toma Tsukishiro, Karin’s best friend, who waits for the two of them. What the player does along the way has not been revealed yet.

Going by how the journey and its setting are described, the history the three share, with Karin at its center, looks set to surface piece by piece as the trip goes on.

Tsukiko Kashiwagi, a manga artist, came up with the original concept and designed the characters, and is also producing the game.

The theme song is performed by Mitei no Title, an idol group based in Sapporo, Japan. The name means “the title hasn’t been decided yet” in Japanese, and the song’s title hasn’t been announced either.
