Capcom has released a new trailer for Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, the massive expansion for Monster Hunter Wilds, showing the storm-wielding elder dragon Gundoraja for the first time.
The trailer was unveiled during State of Play, a PlayStation broadcast that aired at 10 PM Japan time on September 3 (9 AM Eastern Time the same day). It took the form of a discussion-style introduction featuring producer Ryozo Tsujimoto.
The story takes place after the main game’s ending. It begins when the elder dragon Lao-Shan Lung suddenly appears at the hunters’ exploration base, leading to the construction of the defensive stronghold Madoï to prepare for its return. As time passes, the fog that had covered the sky clears, revealing the new area called The Skybound Eyrie. Floating above the clouds, this area features vast, unexplored landscapes, ancient ruins, and creatures unique to the region that have yet to be discovered.
Two new monsters were revealed. Araketa is a Bird Wyvern that flies in flocks, using powerful air currents to move at high speed. The other is the storm-wielding elder dragon Gundoraja. The footage also featured the previously known Lao-Shan Lung and Kushala Daora.
New elements for hunters were also shown. The new piece of equipment, the Boost Bracer, adds new actions that further enhance the traits of each of the 14 weapon types.
To play, you must own the base Monster Hunter Wilds game. Players must clear the ★7 quest Awaking From a Dream; in the Steam version, the requirement is completing Chapter 6-1.
Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance is set to launch in 2027, though no specific date has been announced. It will be available on three platforms: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam (PC). At TOKYO GAME SHOW 2026, playable demos featuring a quest to hunt the new monster Araketa will be available at both the PlayStation and Capcom booths.
