Samurai Pizza Cats: Blast from the Past!, a new entry in the Samurai Pizza Cats series, will make its worldwide playable debut at TOKYO GAME SHOW 2026, which runs September 17 to 21 at Makuhari Messe. The demo will be shown at Booth N03 in Hall 7 by publisher Red Dunes Games.
The new game’s script is written by Satoru Akahori, who handled series composition and scripts for the 1990 TV series. Akahori has said that he was struck by the passion of the Dutch staff and that the result is a new title he can call perfect. He has also called it a miracle to be involved with the series again after 35 years, and said he’d like to see the anime itself revived as well.
The game’s artwork was hand-drawn to recreate the original 1990 footage. According to Dave Baljon of developer BLAST ZERO, production began with the extremely difficult task of finding people who could draw in that style. Staff from the original series reportedly saw the finished artwork and were surprised, wondering aloud whether it was something they themselves had drawn. The game also includes several newly animated cutscenes produced by BLAST ZERO.

The demo lets players control three characters — Speedy Cerviche, Guido Anchovy, and Polly Esther — and switch between them in battle. It’s set in Little Tokyo, where players face familiar enemies. The full game uses cards in combat and includes character leveling, along with an explorable overworld.

The original Japanese cast has also returned to record new voice work. The game is set to release in 2027. Its Steam store page lists support for 17 languages, including Japanese and English, without confirming a release date. Development is handled by BLAST ZERO in the Netherlands, and the game is published by Red Dunes Games, based in the United Arab Emirates. The title of the Japanese release is Kyatto Ninden Teyandee: Fukkatsu no Nyanki! Yappari Ashita wa Nipponbare!, a different name from the English title.
