Type a word, and it becomes part of your deck. Verse of Birth is a deck-building roguelike in which players type in a string of text, generating a monster card on the spot, then arrange the cards on a 9-square board to fight.
The game is developed by dentsu Game Center, an in-house organization at Dentsu, and published by DENTSU INC. Dentsu’s main business is advertising and marketing, and dentsu Game Center is a cross-group organization of 300 members with game expertise. The game is in development for PC (Steam), with a release planned for 2026. At TOKYO GAME SHOW 2026, it was playable at the booth of Japanese gaming outlet 4Gamer.net. When a 4Gamer.net reporter typed in the string “4Gamer,” a monster was generated from that word.
The generated cards are called Logos, each with a name, appearance, abilities, and skills. Input can be kanji, hiragana, katakana, letters, numbers, or symbols. Generation uses Adobe Firefly and OpenAI’s GPT-4o.
Logos are placed on the 9-square board. The front row suits tanky cards, the middle row suits support cards, and the back row suits attackers. Battles are turn-based and fought automatically, with players only controlling placement and movement. Winning earns skills, letting players upgrade their equipment before moving on. The dungeon follows a roguelike structure, with more than 50 types of events.
The game also includes Challenge Mode, which offers 10 difficulty levels, and Endless Mode, a boss-rush format.
At an early hands-on session in August, a dentsu Game Center developer said that stat values are drawn from ranges set in advance, since letting AI decide everything freely would break the game’s balance. According to the developer, the project began with the question of how generative AI could be used in gameplay rather than to streamline work, and the team wanted to use it in a more playful way.
Because card generation relies on external AI services, an internet connection is required to play.
The project was announced in July 2026. It was also playable in August at the doujin game event Tokyo Game Dungeon 13.
