Build “an apple on a toilet” out of 3D parts and get your friends to guess it. That’s SUPER GAHAKU, a party game launching November 4 on Steam (Windows). It supports English, and a free demo is live now.

“Gahaku” is a Japanese word for a master painter, and people also use it half-jokingly for someone who can’t draw. Here, though, there’s no brush. You place and delete parts in 3D space, smooth the surfaces, add color, and build whatever the prompt calls for. The developer says free-flowing ideas matter more than drawing skill.

The core mode is Build & Guess, for two or more players. One person builds, and everyone else guesses. You choose how to answer: co-op, where the group talks it over and settles on one answer, or a free-for-all, where the first player to buzz in with the right answer wins. Prompts range from easy ones like “cat” and “car” to oddballs like that apple on the toilet.

In Drawing Imposter, for three or more players, one imposter doesn’t know the prompt. Everyone else looks over the builds and talks it out to find who the imposter is. Free Build has no prompt and no time limit, and it supports one or more players. That said, having many players build at once can affect performance.

Online rooms are private: you join via a friend invite or a room code. There’s no random matchmaking with strangers. Avatars are customizable, and the developer welcomes streams and monetized videos of the game.

Since the contest comes down to how you assemble parts rather than how well you draw, people who’ve been half-jokingly called a “gahaku” may feel more at ease taking a turn as the builder. And with a choice between answering cooperatively and racing to buzz in, a group could well play the same prompt differently depending on who’s in the room.

North Fox Games, an indie team, is developing and publishing the game. The demo is scheduled to run on Steam through October 26, Pacific Time. It includes only Build & Guess, and it has full controller support.
