MAPPA, the animation studio behind Attack on Titan: The Final Season, is producing Attack on Titan 3’s opening animation, and it will reportedly arrive in a post-launch update. A new in-game-only event, “Bertolt’s Sleeping Habits,” has also been unveiled.
Koei Tecmo Games streamed a stage presentation from its own booth at Tokyo Game Show 2026, showing the opening’s key art, color script, and animation artwork for the first time. The artwork shows the game’s protagonist wearing a bandana. Development producer Hideo Suzuki said he wants the opening to be ready as part of whatever post-launch update is available by the time players reach that point.
In “Bertolt’s Sleeping Habits,” Jean Kirstein and Connie Springer come to the player, their squad leader, with a problem: Bertolt Hoover’s sleeping position is apparently bad enough to look like a work of art. The shape is read like a fortune, and the story moves on to a trip to the market for an herb said to help. Fully voiced in Japanese, it’s a comedy about the downtime between fights with Titans.
The hands-on gameplay shown during the stage presentation covered the tutorial section, where players head out to take down Titans alongside Levi. It also included the new dodge action and Combat Arts, mapped to the × button and R2+○/△, respectively, in the PlayStation version.
Players fight using the omni-directional mobility gear. Holding down L2 automatically weaves them through trees. Against medium-sized Titans and smaller, players aim straight for the nape. Against large Titans, they first attack the legs to knock them down, then go for the nape. Pressing R2 slows down time, letting players land precise hits on a targeted spot. At the base, players can invite comrades to their room to talk, and eating with Levi and others raises affinity, which temporarily boosts abilities.

Koei Tecmo Games is positioning the game as the culmination of the series, telling its story from the early chapters through to the climax. Players with save data from Attack on Titan 2 - A.O.T.2 or Attack on Titan 2: Final Battle will get a comrade who shares a name with the previous games’ protagonist and comes with a special skill. It launches December 10, 2026.
