TYPE-MOON announced on August 31, 2026, that it will change the publisher of “Fate/EXTRA Record” — a full remake of “Fate/EXTRA” — to Aniplex. Since its announcement in July 2020, the game has been delayed twice, first to spring 2025 and then to spring 2026. The same day, TYPE-MOON also announced that Kazuya Niinou, who has served as the title’s planner and director, is leaving TYPE-MOON studio BB. Niinou explained that he was leaving for personal reasons and has also asked to have his name removed from the staff credits. A new official website and official X account have been launched, and further updates are expected sometime in September.

The game-focused label “CASSETRON” from diskunion and DIW PRODUCTS has announced a reissue of “ELECTRICAL COMMUNICATION,” the opening theme of “Mega Man 8,” in two formats: an 8cm CD and a 7-inch vinyl record. “BUZZ or DIE,” Set on a Variety Show Featuring Death-Row Inmates, to Be Published by Kodansha

“BUZZ or DIE,” an adventure game developed independently by Bon and published by Kodansha, has been unveiled. Set on a variety show featuring death-row inmates as performers, the game has players dig up dirt on their opponents, create short videos, and compete based on the buzz those videos generate. A PC (Steam) release is planned for sometime in 2026, with support for Japanese, English, and Simplified Chinese.

Life Sim “NANIWA UNDERGROUND,” Set in a Lawless Osaka, Gets a Steam Store Page

Kyamei independently launched the Steam store page for “NANIWA UNDERGROUND,” a life simulation game set in an Osaka where public order has collapsed, on August 26, 2026. Famitsu covered the game on August 31. Players can interact with a colorful cast of residents and choose how they want to live, including committing crimes and causing public nuisances. A playable demo has also been confirmed for “Osaka Game Dungeon 2,” an indie game exhibition being held in Osaka on December 26, 2026. The Steam page carries content warnings for violence, alcohol, drugs, and gambling, among other things, and the game currently supports Japanese only.

Retro-Style Exploration RPG “Crescent Tower” Gets a Sequel, “Crescent Tower: RISING,” an Ensemble Tale in Five Chapters

“Crescent Tower: RISING,” an 8-bit-style 2D field exploration RPG independently developed by Curry Croquette together with AMATA Games (AMATA K.K.), was announced on August 31, 2026. A sequel to “Crescent Tower,” released on Steam in 2025, the game features a five-chapter ensemble narrative centered on a quest to reach “The Tower of the Arc Moon,” a dungeon that appears once every 50 years. Players can choose from 14 classes and can share abilities between classes through a skill blocks system.
