Metroid Ravenous Launches January 28, 2027, With Samus Feeding on Enemies to Escape a Satellite
Nintendo announced at Nintendo Direct 9.9.2026 that Metroid Ravenous, the newest 2D Metroid game for Nintendo Switch 2, launches January 28, 2027. It marks the series’ first 2D installment since 2021’s Metroid Dread. Bounty hunter Samus Aran is ambushed by an unidentified attacker and left stranded on an unfamiliar satellite. She gathers gear to push through its winding passages, feeding on enemies with freshly awakened Metroid instincts. Three amiibo figures and a special edition were also revealed alongside the game.

Kirby and the World Beyond Arrives Spring 2027 as a Brand-New Game With a Vast, Free-Roaming 3D World
At the same broadcast, Nintendo announced Kirby and the World Beyond, a brand-new game for Nintendo Switch 2, launching spring 2027. The game lets players freely explore a vast 3D field, with gameplay built around the Copy Ability. 2027 marks Kirby’s 35th anniversary.

Romancing SaGa 3 Gets a Full 3D Remake, Keeping Its 8-Protagonist Structure, Launching February 16, 2027
At the same broadcast, SQUARE ENIX announced Romancing SaGa 3: Destinies United, a full 3D remake of the 1995 Super Nintendo Entertainment System RPG Romancing SaGa 3. It retains the original’s structure, in which players choose one of eight protagonists to play through the story, while overhauling the graphics and adding full voice acting to the cutscenes. Combat and other game systems have also been reworked, and players can select the difficulty. xeen Inc. is joining the game’s development. It releases February 16, 2027, with the Steam version following one day later on February 17. The game will be available on Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam, Microsoft Store).

Xenoblade Chronicles 3’s Switch 2 Edition Arrives December 3, With a New Hero and a Roguelike-Style Mode
At the same broadcast, Nintendo announced that Xenoblade Chronicles 3 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, an enhanced port of Xenoblade Chronicles 3, launches December 3, 2026. It supports 4K in TV mode and full HD in handheld mode, and it runs at 60fps. A new hero, Shimmer, joins the cast, along with a new mode called Heroes’ Vault, where players fight off waves of enemies. An Upgrade Pack is also available for owners of the original Nintendo Switch version.

Touhou Koumakyou: New Classic Launches, With a Concurrent Player Peak of About 14,600 on Steam
Team Shanghai Alice / Shanghai Alice Reprise and Alliance Arts Inc. released Touhou Koumakyou: New Classic - the Embodiment of Scarlet Devil, a remake of one of the games in the doujin shooter series Touhou Project, on September 10, 2026. It’s available on PC (Steam), Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation 5. The original, distributed in 2002 at the doujin convention Comic Market, had become unplayable on modern PCs because its frame rate would climb without limit. This remake fixes that issue and updates the graphics and music for modern audiences. As of September 10, the game’s concurrent Steam player count had peaked at around 14,600 shortly after launch, and about 98% of its roughly 1,700 user reviews are positive.
