Before Terry O’Quinn was cast in SILENT HILL: Townfall, the game already had a version of his voice in it. It belonged to the director. Jon McKellan, writer and director at Screen Burn, did the O’Quinn impression himself in early teaser footage, and he has since described O’Quinn as dream casting. The studio got him.

Townfall arrives on September 24, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Steam and the Epic Games Store. Screen Burn is developing it; Konami and Annapurna are publishing. It is set in 1996 on St. Amelia, an island off the coast of Scotland, where Simon Ordell is carried across a grey sea and washes ashore in a town held in fog and silence. Three actors carry the English version, and no two of them arrived the same way.

The man in the CRTV

O’Quinn plays Richard, the man who talks to Simon through the CRTV. The CRTV is a portable, television-shaped device, and it takes over the role the radio has played in this series: it is the tool the player carries around and uses to work out puzzles. Richard is what comes out of it.

Konami’s cast credits list two titles beside his name: Lost and The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live. On Lost, the ABC drama, he played John Locke, and the part won him the 2007 Emmy for outstanding supporting actor in a drama series. Horror is not new ground for him either: he starred in The Stepfather (1987) as Jerry Blake, a man who goes under several other names over the course of the film, and he came back for the 1989 sequel.

Cast on the strength of one Netflix performance

Jovan Adepo plays Simon Ordell. Konami’s credits list him for The Odyssey, IT: Welcome to Derry and 3 Body Problem, and the last of those is why he is in this game: McKellan has said he watched Adepo’s work in the Netflix series and decided on the basis of that performance that he wanted him for Simon.

Konami calls Townfall psychological horror; on Steam it is filed under action and adventure. Adepo plays the man who comes ashore: the player character and the person Richard is talking to.

The one who came from games

Kezia Burrows plays Zoe, a nurse. She is the only one of the three who built her career in games rather than arriving from film and television. She is from Wales and trained at RADA, and she has been described as having worked on more than a hundred games, providing voice and motion-capture performances. Her credits include Alien: Isolation, Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture, GreedFall and Elden Ring.

One of those credits matters more than the rest here: Observation (2019), where she provided both the voice and the motion capture for Dr. Emma Fisher. That is the credit Konami lists beside her name, and it is the one that ties her to this game: Observation was made by No Code, the studio Screen Burn grew out of. Townfall reunites her with the same team, which has said it was glad to be working with her again.

Between the reveal and the release

The cast reveal trailer premiered at gamescom in August, and Konami’s PRESS START showcase in September featured messages from the cast members themselves alongside comments from the development team.

Before the release comes Tokyo Game Show. Konami’s lineup there includes a ninety-minute Townfall stage presentation at 10:30 p.m. Pacific on September 18, with series producer Motoi Okamoto joined by a Japanese game streamer as a guest. Konami is showing the game rather than letting anyone play it: the booth has a display and a broadcast but no hands-on demo. The release comes less than a week later.

Three parts, three routes in

O’Quinn came from decades of film and television. Adepo came from a streaming drama. Burrows came from inside games, and from the studio this team used to be part of. Three leading parts, three different places they came from.

Each was hired for a different reason: one because the director had already been doing his voice in the game’s own teasers, one because of a single performance in a series on Netflix, one because she had made a game with these people before and they wanted her back.

One thing does run through all three of them: each already has horror credits. The second title Konami lists for O’Quinn, The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live, is a horror series too, on top of The Stepfather. Konami’s list for Adepo includes IT: Welcome to Derry. Konami lists Observation for Burrows, while Alien: Isolation appears in her own credits. Three different careers, and all three of them have already worked in the genre.

Townfall is out on September 24 for PlayStation 5, Steam and the Epic Games Store. The English cast was assembled one actor at a time, with each of the three arriving by a different route. When Richard comes through on that little screen, the voice will finally be the one McKellan had been doing all along.
