In DRAGON BALL XENOVERSE 3, the fighter you control is an avatar you build yourself, starting with a choice of race. You fly, boost in to close the distance, and hit with ki blasts and combos. Knock an opponent away, and a burst of speed carries you after them so the combo keeps going. In the earlier games, Super Attacks cost ki from the gauge. Here they don’t.
The setting is AGE 1000, a future designed by DRAGON BALL creator Akira Toriyama, in which West City, a city from the series, has grown far beyond what it was. Your avatar joins the Great Saiyan Squad and heads out on missions as one of its members.
The game is due in 2027, and no release date has been announced. It is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC (Steam), with English text and English voice acting. Multiplayer is planned, as in the previous game, while the official site still lists the player count as undecided.

Ki Break: empty the opponent’s ki gauge, and certain attacks hit hard
Super Attacks such as Kaioken and the Super Kamehameha each run on their own cooldown.
The ki gauge is still there, though, and the TOKYO GAME SHOW 2026 demo revealed one of its new roles. Empty an opponent’s ki gauge, and they fall into Ki Break, a state in which attacks in one particular category deal heavy damage.
On defense, a well-timed just guard restores your ki. There is also an evasion skill for slipping away from incoming attacks.

Take the transformation, or take your race’s skill
Your avatar can be an Earthling, a Saiyan, a member of the Frieza Race, a Namekian or a Majin. The second trailer, released in September, added Android to that list.
In the middle of a fight, your avatar can become one of the series’ fighters outright. Trigger it once its dedicated gauge has filled, and the soul of the fighter you have equipped settles into your avatar, which then takes on that fighter’s form. This is Soul Switch. In a July report based on watching the developers play, the avatar turned into Future Trunks, and both the fighting style and the Ultimate Attack switched to Future Trunks’ own. HP refills completely the moment Soul Switch goes off, and stats rise sharply.
The same report, however, expects Soul Switch and your race’s Awoken Skill to be an either-or choice. Transform to get your HP back, or bring your own race’s move into the fight.
You can also stay as you are and use Soul Assist to call in a fighter for a support attack. In the same report, Vegeta appeared and fired a Galick Gun in time with the player’s attack. What that support does differs from character to character.
The first trailer, released in June, showed Super Attacks from Vegeta and Tien Shinhan. The July report also showed that Bulma, Gamma 1 and Brett, an original character created for Xenoverse 3, appear in the game.
You build how your avatar fights by combining fighting styles, Awoken Skills, Soul Switch, Soul Assist and abilities.
Super Attacks come back with time, and Soul Switch restores full HP the instant it triggers. Compared with the earlier games, that should mean less time holding a Super Attack in reserve while watching the ki gauge, and more ways to turn a fight around from a losing position.

Toriyama’s character art was shown before the game had a name
Beyond designing the world of AGE 1000, Toriyama drew original characters for this project. Counting the early concept work, the project had been in motion for six to seven years.
Those characters were revealed to the public before the game had a name. In January, at Dragon Ball Genkidamatsuri, a DRAGON BALL event held in Japan, Bandai Namco Entertainment Inc. announced a new project called AGE 1000 and showed the characters Toriyama had drawn for it. The title was held back. The name DRAGON BALL XENOVERSE 3 was announced three months later, at DRAGON BALL Games Battle Hour 2026 in Los Angeles, where an announcement trailer produced by Toei Animation was also shown.
Masayuki Hirano, who produced DRAGON BALL Xenoverse (2015) and DRAGON BALL Xenoverse 2 (2016), returns as producer. Dimps Corporation is developing the game, and Bandai Namco Entertainment is publishing it.
